Apps and the extension#

The web app works in any browser. Every release also carries:

  • a Linux AppImage,
  • a Windows installer,
  • a signed Android APK,
  • the browser extension, for Chrome and for Firefox.

The desktop and Android apps#

The apps hold the same web app and connect to your server over the network. No server address is built in: on first launch, enter yours on the sign-in screen, for example https://chords.example.com. You can change it later under Settings → Connection.

The browser extension#

The extension, "Chords Importer", imports the page you are looking at from your own browser, for sites that refuse the server (see Importing songs).

Chrome, Edge, Brave and other Chromium browsers

  1. Download chords-extension-chrome-<version>.zip and unzip it to a folder you will keep. The browser loads it from there at every start.
  2. Open chrome://extensions (Edge: edge://extensions).
  3. Turn on Developer mode.
  4. Choose Load unpacked and select the folder.

Firefox

The zip is unsigned, so Firefox loads it as a temporary add-on, which is removed when Firefox restarts.

  1. Download chords-extension-firefox-<version>.zip. Don't unzip it.
  2. Open about:debugging#/runtime/this-firefox.
  3. Choose Load Temporary Add-on… and pick the zip.
  4. Under Permissions in the add-on's page, allow Access your data for all websites; Firefox asks for it separately.

Connect it to your server

In the extension's options, set:

  • Site URL, your server's address;
  • Auth token. The easiest way: sign in to chords in a tab, switch to that tab and choose Grab token from app tab. It fills in both fields.
